Army Sniper: Jacob McClure, Class of '16

Monday, 29 April 2019 16:54

Jacob McClure, a 2016 graduate of Haywood Christian Academy, joined the Army in September 2017.

He said, “Joining the military for me was something I felt called to do from an early age. I joined the military because I wanted to serve my country, for the challenge and adventure, to see parts of the country I would not have otherwise gotten the chance to see, to stay out of trouble and to pay for a college education.

I left home in September 2017 bound for Ft. Benning, Georgia to begin basic training. I entered into a world I did not know existed. I decided I was going to push through and do it to the best of my ability. I quickly realized that, even on days when I questioned my decision, that God would send someone to me to pray with or share my faith. God had me here for a reason and I needed to trust completely in Him.

I started on the line as a 240 gunner and traveled to a few different states to train, which tested me physically and even more so mentally. I went to selection for a reconnaissance platoon and was selected. I now serve, as a Sniper, with some of the best soldiers and greatest people I have ever met. I will soon be going through an advanced sniper course and airborne school.
I am currently stationed at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, home of the 101st Airborne Division and am excited to see what God has in store for me next.”
